Players
Everyone is welcome!
The Central Park North Stars welcomes all players over 5 years, and all abilities. Currently the players range from 6 – 30+ with abilities from never skated through many years of hockey experience. Practices are divided by ability level, with the ultimate goal of helping all players participate and become part of the team. We also encourage all players to participate in games, and everyone has a great time. New skaters generally have an on-ice coach to assist and encourage participation.
We often get equipment, both new and used, donated to us, and can often provide pads, skates, and sticks to your child. Also, we often get parents who are new to hockey, and we are there to help them.
Coaches
Adult coaches are always needed, and provide on- and off-ice assistance to the players and parents (many of whom are also new to hockey). On a given day a coach may show participants how to put on gear, help a first-time skater, and teach advanced players team strategy and positioning. It is not necessary that you make every practice, but it’s a fun and rewarding experience when you do make it.
Adult coaches must meet ASHA requirements before participating.
Junior Coaches
Junior coaches, generally 14-18 years old, can volunteer with the Stars. In addition to getting a little ice time, junior coaches can meet volunteer requirements leading up to college applications.
Junior coaches will need to meet ASHA requirements prior to being allowed on the ice.
Additional Support
You don’t need to know how to skate or play hockey to help out. Help is always needed, from managing equipment and tying laces to running the scoreboard and encouraging players on the ice.
Requirements for Participation
Aside from having a positive, patient attitude, there are requirements we must follow for all participants, both on and off the ice. These change over time, so please reach out to CPNS and ASHA for the most up-to-date requirements.
